Is NOT closed on Mondays!!! Food truck in front of the market. This review is for the food truck. We had the walleye plate that comes with plenty of pickles and sliced onions and two prières of bread. SO much food! Taking home a whole plate. Also ordered River fries (big slabs of fried potatoes), Cole slaw and fried green tomatoes. Everything was just excellent. Flavor if fish without any sauces was really good. Highly, highly recommend!!!

In the hood, don't plan on setting and eating- no tables. Is a buy and carry fish market that cooks up fish in a doghouse outside. Drive up, order, wait. Pay. Leave. Very good food. Large portion.
Best Fish Fry Shack in Sangamon County! And I would even go to far as to say in Central Illinois! Hands-down the best! Worth the wait! Fish portion sizes are huge! And the prices are very, very reasonable! The staff is very friendly, and it's just a treat to get fish from these folks! Keep up the great work! I've been a customer since 1980! The quality is always remain the same, and the portions are out of this world! You can't get a better bang for your buck anywhere else in this town!
I cannot recommend the walleye fish highly enough. It is Springfield's best fish. It might be a long line and you wait outside the little fish shack but when you get it on your plate and take a bite, you'll be happy you did it. I love this place. "HOT FISH TODAY" is the best sign in Springfield.

A catfish dinner has 4 filets, I was told when I called to order, but I wasn't sure how large those filets would be, so I paid the extra $4 for two more. River fries, coleslaw, hush puppies, and bread slices meant there was plenty of food for two for $20. Delicious crispy catfish!
I can't come to Springfield without coming to carters. The have the best fried walleye in the world! I can say that because I have been all over and no place compares to carters. They give generous portions and a order of walleye, pickles, onions, and bread is under 8 bucks! The walleye is always cooked to perfection. Flaky and light tasting. The thing that I really love is even though it's fried, it's not greasy. My favorite way to eat it is to tear a piece of bread, put a piece of fish on the bread, add hot sauce, pickle and onion then enjoy! Their river fries are really good as well. Their cx service is great, they are friendly and polite. If you ever make a trip to Springfield check this place out you will thank me for it later. Ps. They offer other fish as well but walleye is my favorite.
